Before sunrise, your driver picks you up for the drive south toward Abu Simbel. You travel through the peaceful desert as your guide shares the story of Ramses II, his military victories, and his devotion to Nefertari. Upon arrival, the sight of the four colossal statues carved into the mountain takes your breath away.

You walk into the main temple, where inscriptions and colorful scenes depict Ramses’ power and his connection with the gods. Then you visit the elegant temple of Nefertari, beautifully decorated with figures of the queen and Hathor. Your guide explains how both temples were saved from rising waters through a historic UNESCO relocation. After taking photos and enjoying the site, you drive back to Aswan.
